    If the sextant is being used as surveying sextant, the filters in front of the horizon mirror can be changed against a penta prism. So, the measuring area increases to 215 degrees.
    The Penta prism can be clinched in two different positions.
    The sextant is being calibrated in a horizontal position, just like the measurement of horizon angles between two objects. After both objects have been in sight through adjustment of the alhidade; the fine tuning with the drum has been made and the angle value read off (dependent on the position of the penta prism in the xxx), the angle value is being added with 90 or subducted with 90 degrees respectively. The newly calculated value corresponds to the actual horizon angle.
