For magnetic reasons magnetic compass binnacles are usually installed on the compass bridge.

Reflector binnacles comprise reflection tubes with lenses and mirrors to allow reading of the heading at the helmsman´s position in the wheelhouse.

In contrast standard or bearing compass binnacles do not contain reflection tubes of optical transmission of the heading.

As far as accepted by maritime authorities one may use electronic means of heading transmission by transmitting magnetic compasses (T.M.C.).

Steering compass binnacles do not comprise reflection arrangements or bearing arangements.

Steering binnacles are suitable for smaller vessels where it is possible to install the compass directly beneath the hermsman´s position.

The installation of a separate pelorus may be necessary.

The hoods of steering binnacles are equipped with a glass window for direct reading of the heading.

Hight of Binnacle Column
According to the necessary iron safe distanc bearing binnacles can be delivered in various card heights above deck level. The standard card height is 1200mm (bearing binnacle/160:1100mm). These can be shortened to 880mm (bearing binnacle/160:780 mm) or extended up to 1800mm (bearing binnacle/160:1700mm) not available for steering binnacles. Please state required card level with order. 1Compass binnacle made of reinforced fibreglass with seawater resistant fittings, flaps for light, reflection optics and corrector magazines.
4 oblong holes in the base for A-error correction
1 rim ring with two PTFE bearings mounted.
1 hood without aperture, with handles.
1 electrical light with cable type 3x1.5 mm2 lenght of cable down to 30 cm below the binnacle, bulb E14-type, 40 VA, 230 VAC to 30 cm below the binnacle, bulb E14-type, 40 VA, 230 VAC or acc. to ship´s main voltage.
1 electrical emergency light same as above, 24VDC or as ships emergency voltage.
1 set of fastening material comprising: 4 bolts of brass M16 acc. to ISO 2269 or M20 for UK-DoT, 4 washers with rubber gasket, 4 nuts with flange for fixing on the deck.
2 full size D-spheres (180mm) of soft iron with index marking, fixing bolts M16, on D-brackets with distance scale.
3 magazines (built into coluumn) with 6 B+C magnets (10 mm x 200 mm).
1 heeling magnet and tube in binnacle column, with numbered chain, 1 magnet and tube 125 mm, 1 magnet 50 mm.
1 name plate with serial number and approval number.

Directional system 180 mm (Type 21:160mm). 1º division from above and below. Card printing: north below north. Magnetic moment appr.4Am2 (21:3 Am2). 1 each lubber line ahead and aft. 1º division for graduated bearing scale. Centre pivot (6mm) for C&P azimuth device. Gimbal ring with bronze suspension inserts.
